Sustainable Development
C&C Development has made a commitment to develop its affordable communities in an environmentally conscious manner. It is our goal to build energy efficient and environmentally friendly high-performance green projects. C&C will seek a LEED Certification for the construction of each new residential community.
The LEED Green Building Rating System™ promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes. Green homes use less energy, water and natural resources, create less waste, and are more durable and comfortable for occupants. Building LEED affordable housing directly benefits both the developer and the families that will inhabit the homes. LEED for Homes provides a tool for recognizing homes that are designed and built to be energy- and resource-efficient, durable, less costly to maintain, and healthy for their occupants. The rating system can be applied to multi-family homes and is intended for both market-rate and affordable housing. The result is a home that offers the following benefits to the residents:
- Economic benefits, such as lower energy and water bills.
- Environmental benefits, like reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
- Quality of life benefits, like improved comfort and less maintenance.
- Health benefits, such as reduced exposure to mold, mildew, and other indoor toxins.
- Third-party verification that a home has been inspected, performance-tested, and certified to meet the LEED green building criteria.
The inclusion of green, sustainable building methods within each development also serves as a model for other market-rate developments within the community. To do our part in helping reduce the energy consumption of our acquisition/rehabilitation projects, we include the following items where applicable:
- Energy star-rated refrigerators, ceiling fans and bathroom fans.
- Drought tolerant landscape and landscape design that minimizes water usage.
- Cool roof systems or radiant barriers.
- Photovoltaic Solar System
- Flow restrictors on all faucets.
- Environmentally friendly carpet, paint, and formaldehyde free cabinetry, shelving, countertops, and insulation
- Dual Glazed, Low-E windows
- Increase of the energy efficiency by at least 25%.
- Low-VOC Interior Paint
- Use of bathroom and kitchen fans that exhaust to the outdoors.
- Installation of high performance dual pane windows with a U-Factor of .35 or less and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient
